John Smoltz article
Attached are links to websites related to Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz work with a sports psychologist. I have not been able to access the original article I use to reference in my sport psychology classes. That article was published in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and was entitled, "Revival of John Smoltz". It was first published on Saturday August 24, 1991. There maybe some archival sites from which you can download the article for a small fee if you so desire. If you have access to other means to get the article for free, like a local or college library, I encourage you to do so. It is well worth the read. While not as informative, the links below provide good information about what a sport psychologist does. Item 6 in the second link is what has particular relevance for our discussion here. It is important to keep in mind, that the John Smoltz we know today, is not the John Smoltz who began his professional baseball journey. At one time he was like a lot of us, just a young guy striving to establish himself in his career and make a name for himself. These articles highlight how a sport psychologist might assist an athlete through a rough patch, and help boost them to reach greater heights in his career.
